Gauhati Press Club annex TOPCEM-ASJA T20 Cricket Title


Guwahati: Gauhati Press Club won the TOPCEM-ASJA Inter-Media T20 Cricket Championships at the Nehru Stadium, Guwahati on Sunday. They beat Media Management by 8 runs in a thriller of a final which was truncated to 10-over-a-side due to inclement weather.

Winning the toss, Media Management opted to field. With the help of Mriganka Jyoti Sarma’s 31 runs off 18 balls and Raj Hussain’s unbeaten 32 off 28 balls, Gauhati Press Club scored 88/2 in 10 overs. Monoj Duwarah picked up a wicket.

In reply, Media Management could manage 80/6 in 10 overs. Amit Das scored 33 off 22 balls while Abuddin Khan contributed 19. But their efforts were not sufficient enough to overcome the target. Mausam Dutta picked up 2 wickets for 12 runs.

The final was followed by the presentation ceremony of the cricket tournament as well as those of the TOPCEM-ASJA media Sports Festival 2023, organised by Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA).

Several distinguished guests including former Ranji player Mrigen Talukdar, ASJA president Subodh Malla Barua, veteran sports journalists Pabitra Gogoi and Balendra Mohan Chakravarty and senior journalist Pranay Bordoloi, AGM of TOPCEM Cement Abhishek Chakraborty and others were present during the closing ceremony. They also gave away the prizes of cricket, football, badminton, table tennis and chess.
