107 Assam Govt official arrested, Rs 1.5 Crore recovered in two years.



Digital Desk, NE Post: Over the past two years, a total of 107 individuals, including 100 government officials, have been apprehended in Assam by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on charges of accepting bribes, according to an official statement.
The majority of these arrests were made in response to complaints lodged through helpline numbers and social media platforms, the official revealed.
Highlighting the continuous efforts of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in combating corrupt public servants, the official stated, "Since May 10, 2021, until May 10, 2023, the directorate has successfully conducted 89 operations in various locations across Assam."
The vigilance operations carried out by the authorities resulted in the arrest of 107 individuals, including 100 government officials and seven intermediaries. Of the 41 officers arrested, 21 held gazetted positions.
Furthermore, the official specified that among the apprehended individuals, seven were intermediaries and 21 were gazetted officers.
These arrests are part of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's campaign against corruption within government departments, initiated after he assumed office on May 10, 2021.
In 2021, a total of 11 arrests were made, followed by 50 in 2022. As of May 10 of this year, 28 individuals have already been apprehended.
During the course of the past two years, a substantial sum of cash, amounting to Rs 1,56,81,235, was recovered during raids conducted at various offices and locations.
