Broiler Chicken Price Skyrocket in Guwahati: ₹ 350 Per Kilogram
Digital Desk, NE Post: Consumers in Guwahati are becoming increasingly concerned over the sharp rise in the cost of dressed broiler chicken. The poultry industry in the city has been hit hard by a combination of factors, resulting in prices reaching unprecedented levels. In Beltola, for instance, the current price for dressed broiler chicken has surged to ₹340 per kilogram, with the cost in Six Mile soaring to ₹360 per kilogram. Meanwhile, customers in Beltola are experiencing a price range of ₹350-₹360 per kilogram.
The sudden increase in prices has left many perplexed and searching for answers. Just a month ago, consumers were able to purchase the same product for a lower price range of ₹260-270 per kilogram. The reasons behind the surge in prices have been attributed to a variety of factors, the most significant being the ban on the transportation of poultry into Assam.
On March 10, the Assam government banned the transportation of poultry into the state following an outbreak of Avian Influenza (H5N1) in Bihar and Jharkhand. The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department issued a notification to ban the entry of poultry into Assam through the western border as a precautionary measure. The ban was imposed to check the spread of the disease in Assam and the other northeastern states, as H5N1 is a highly contagious avian disease with zoonotic potential.
