RR vs MI IPL 2024: In the rematch, Mumbai Indians seek retribution from Rajasthan Royals, who are currently atop the table.
Digital Desk: In their IPL rematch against the top-seeded Rajasthan Royals on Monday, the Mumbai Indians, who are on the rise, will have to confront their bowling deficiencies.
While RR is on a tear and leads the league with 12 points right now, MI has won three of their last four games to open the season and is starting to turn things around after a disastrous start.
The five-time champions overcame Ashutosh Sharma's late onslaught to defeat Punjab Kings by nine runs in their most recent match. With three wickets to his name, Jasprit Bumrah was once again left to do the majority of the work. The best bowler in India did a fantastic job with the new ball before returning to make a breakthrough, all without conceding many runs.
Bumrah leads the list of players with the most wickets taken in this IPL with 13. Even though he has been accurate, his bowling partners have not been as successful. In addition, his economy of just under six runs is the second best.
Gerald Coetzee has also made an impact with 12 wickets, but he has also gone for runs. However, Hardik Pandya, the captain, and Akash Madhwal haven't been reliable.
Shreyas Gopal has taken a wicket in each of the three games he has played so far, but MI also needs to utilise the bowling prowess of seasoned Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammed Nabi.
While Ishan Kishan's batting has been inconsistent, former captain Rohit Sharma's outstanding century—albeit in a losing cause—has stood out. Thus far, Tilak Verma's performance has been mediocre, and Hardik's contribution has also been minimal.
The fact that Suryakumar Yadav has returned to form is a big plus for MI. On his day, he can crush any attack. MI's innings were built around his 53-ball 78 against PBKS, which lasted the entire innings.
Trent Boult had dismissed three of MI's top-order hits in their last meeting with the RR bowling team, and the seasoned left-arm bowler would be a formidable threat once more. MI appeared to be a bunny struck by headlights.
Avesh Khan has been entrusted with a significant responsibility and performance—bowling at the conclusion. Kuldeep Sen showed his skills as well, but he still needs to work on his economy.
With 12 wickets, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has emerged as RR's most valuable bowler; however, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has not performed well.
For RR, Riyan Parag has been the best batsman of the season. The young batsman from Assam has completely changed and elevated RR to the top of the standings with his 318 runs.
Team captain Sanju Samson has amassed 276 runs thus far, but he hasn't always been the centre of attention when it comes to hitting. He has however produced some outstanding smashes.
While England's Jos Buttler alone overcame a 200+ total to help RR defeat the Kolkata Knight Riders in their most recent encounter, there are still questions regarding the form of another opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has struggled to build on previous starts. Shimron Hetymer also went above and beyond when it came to saving the team from PBKS the other day.
