Assam Jatiya Parishad Demands Judicial Inquiry into Alleged Land Scam and Subsidy Irregularities Involving Chief Minister's Family

NE Post, Guwahati:
Explosive allegations have emerged, implicating Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma's family in a land scam that saw agricultural land transformed into industrial land, followed by the family allegedly benefiting from government subsidies. Assam Jatiya Parishad President Lurinjyoti Gogoi and General Secretary Jagadish Bhuyan have issued a press statement demanding a thorough judicial inquiry into these troubling allegations.

The allegations, exposed by investigative reporting from "The Cross Current," a popular web-news portal of Assam, reveal a startling sequence of events. First, a substantial parcel of agricultural land measuring 50 bigha 2 katha 19 lecha at Darigaji village of Kaliabar under Borbhogiya mouza was mysteriously reclassified as industrial land just within a month of buying the land by family members of Assam CM Dr. Sharma. This transformation is alleged to have occurred under circumstances raising concerns about the misuse of government influence.

"We firmly believe in the principles of honesty, integrity, and zero tolerance for corruption, as advocated by the Chief Minister himself. Therefore, we find it imperative to call for a thorough and impartial judicial inquiry by the Guwahati High Court into these alarming allegations, particularly those related to the land irregularities," the statement reads.

What further compounds the gravity of these allegations is the claim that the Chief Minister's wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, reportedly benefited from the Prime Minister’s Kishan Sampada Yojana, a government scheme designed to support farmers. This has raised questions about transparency and accountability at the highest levels of government.

The Assam Jatiya Parishad has called for the total wealth and assets owned by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family to be made public as part of this inquiry, emphasizing the need for transparency in the financial affairs of elected representatives.

The party also urged all relevant authorities to conduct a fair and unbiased investigation into this matter, stressing the importance of upholding the trust of the people in the democratic institutions of the state.
