End of HSLC Exams from 2024

Guwahati:
In a groundbreaking development, Assam's Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, has declared a significant shift by discontinuing the traditional Matriculation Examination in the state. Pegu unveiled that Class 10 examinations will now adopt a format akin to those of Class 8 and 9 assessments.

Under the revamped system, students in Class 5, Class 8, and Class 10 will be eligible for the prestigious Anandaram Baruah Award, recognizing academic excellence. This strategic move aligns with the government's overarching initiative to modernize the education system.

Earlier in June 2023, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the discontinuation of Assam HSLC exams from the following year, effectively eliminating board exams for Class 10 students starting from the academic year 2024. The State Government's plan includes the establishment of a new Assam Educational Board, a decision made in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).

CM Sarma clarified that matric exams would now be conducted exclusively at the school level, emphasizing alignment with the new education policy. While ensuring job security for employees of the existing SEBA (Board of Secondary Education, Assam), CM Sarma affirmed the imminent creation of a new board.
